Our son has grown up so fast.....Midnight Mass

I just wanted to post this and I hope my words do justice.  We have made the tradition the last seven years to make the Mass our youngest (now 18) was singing.  I have written before of the blessing that the Lord has given Kevin, his uplifting vocal gift.  He works very hard at his singing and I have the depleted bank account to prove this, and worth every penny.

The past 6 years he has been part of the wonderful Youth Group Band (my guess ages 14 through 19) at St. Joseph's Church in Downingtown.  To watch him grow up in the band, as well as all the other children has been a great pleasure in our life.  The energy and spiritual uplifting sound emenating from that group moves all who attend.  As Kev has grown he has taken on a larger role in the group, my ability to keep a dry eye has diminished......yes I am a sober when I hear his voice singing God 's praises.  Last year his solo was a time that I felt I could never be prouder of him.....I was wrong.

While the Youth Group allowed me the opportunity to see the changes he had, not just in his singing abilities, he has become a very devote spiritual person, very professional in his appearance and such a courtious young adult.....the number of people who have approached his mother and I with wonderful comments again make me hold back the tears of satisfaction that we have been able to raise such a child.

This year at midnight Mass Kev chose to be part of the Adult choir and worked very hard over the last few weeks to be ready for part of the choir.  His part as it came to be was to Cantor the Mass....what an honor.  He made such a presence on the Alter, this little boy from the Youth Group has been become very quickly a man.

As it must seem very evident, and hopefully my words have done justice, I am very proud and honored to have Kevin as my son.......Dear Lord keep him safe and healthy, watch over him as he moves on to college next year and finally keep him in Your light as he journeys through life.

Love,

Dad

First time buyers.....back to the basics.

I have had a great day running around with an young, motivated engaged couple and would be first time home Buyers.  Do you remember the excitement and enthusiasm they have?  It has been a while since I had been out with first timers.  My last few sales have all been more of the senior side.  I Loved It!

While they are family and that in itself has its own particular relationship, I have always treated family like Clients (which they truly are) and the respect they deserve.  I let them know that they must be assured that all that we talk about is kept confidential (I always do, however family ask even the most personal questions and I have to be prepared to answer without offending).  I make sure that even in this case (my Nephew and his Fiancee) that when I am approached by my Sister in Law innocently asks the question about our visits to homes, that I respectfully decline and ask her to talk to the Buyer's and get there feedback.  This is not always the easiest situation.

Now back to the Buyer's.....they have both just received their first full time jobs (graduating this Spring) and dealing with employment letters for the mortgage.  One a traveling job....the other a home office, yet daily travel....up to now we were trying to stay near a train line because they did not want to buy cars just yet.

Getting them to agree on a budget was my first goal now that the location was set.....thus the mortgage approval.  Now what are their basic needs....roof, doors, windows and maybe a deck or patio.....was I being naive?  They want, want, want.....yet unsure of need, need, need.  A balancing act that must be addressed to ensure the smoothest possible process.  Are we buying for 1-3 years?....2-5 years?....one thing for sure a starter home which I was happy to learn.  Do we "expect" family growth in this time frame?  This comes in handy to know when some two bedroom townhomes come with one bedroom on each floor because of square footage restrictions.  They are certain they want two dogs, and the size of the animal in some HOA's and Condos Associations is an issue.  I loved the conversation where the Television was to go....was there enough room?

They found a possibility and we are stepping up the process and I had to ask if the "parents" are to be involved before an agreement is reached on any property?   They said in unison, NO....after we have the home, YIPPEE for me!!!!!

The Holidays......What is "really" important?

I will start off and wish everyone a healthy, sade and Happy Holiday!!!!

My wife and I were out today attempting to get our Christmas shopping started....yes started, it has been that kind of year.  Usually we are done by this time and spend the balance of the time wrapping and trimming.  As we were going over our list, we were discussing why we buy for her two sister's and husband's.  Now the six of us do a Pollyanna for individual gifts.....which are always a HOOT.  I have never seen the reason to buy "couple" gifts as well....sort of defeats the purpose.

We decided that we would adopt a family again this year and make sure that they got everything they needed.  Last year it was very satisfying buying off a list for those who truly had very little.  In Addition, we have decided to take on a  second family as well, using the money we spent on the couple's gifts for this one.....again very rewarding and what has become for us the true meaning of Christmas.

Now most of the kids in the immediate family are 17-24 years of age....and the time of making sure each had enough to open is quickly coming to an end.  They are so much more mobile and independent than I was at their age.  They eat out with friends three or more times per week.....travel more than an hour to visit their close friends and are always in need of funds to handle this hectic schedule.  Therefore gift cards have been great to cover their lifestyle needs.....we still like to get them something small to open as well, usually clothes (however that in itself needs its own whole different posts to cover, you know what I mean).

From our family to yours....
